The tuna plant as it is called in Jamaica is a variety of the prickly pear cacti. The leaves of the tuna plant is unfused with other herbs and consumed to help relieve constipation, reduce fevers and combat menstrual problems. The flesh of the cactus leaves can be applied directly to minor cuts, burns and to muscular injuries to stimulate healing and reduce pain.
